Do you have an iPhone?

Oh my. I think I just found a new website to post to. IHateMyiPhone. Although, I may be some sort of phony because as much as I hate my iPhone, I can’t think of another phone that I would willingly switch to. I just dislike the fact that I am constantly being told “I tried to call you but it just kept ringing,” and I’m tired of dropping calls 4x a day. I’m tired of not having service every few blocks, and applications not even working at all. I’m tired of the slow lag time, and the random delay of emails that sometimes appear two days after they were sent. Oh, and I still hate the keyboard.

I miss my Treo 650, but it just fell behind with the times. It was a perfect beginners PDA, with both a touch screen and a real QWERTY keyboard.

Holy Mother Of God.

How does one bite the same exact spot on the inside of their cheek FOUR TIMES in one day? I’ve tasted blood on more than one occasion, now I’m dealing with the rough, uneven, Freddy Kruger-like texture of the inside of my mouth, which I of course cannot stop flicking my tongue against. If you see my tongue pop out through my cheek, you’ll know I’ve bit my cheek a fifth time.

iPhone with AT&T: Better off without

I love this. It’s not like it’s revolutionary or anything, but it speaks the truth. AT&T is terrible. There is no reason why my phone should not work in several neighborhoods in Manhattan (the few blocks surrounding the Flatiron building, the mid 50s and 3rd avenue to name a few…) It’s New York City! If AT&T can’t make it here… well, you know the saying.

Not only do I usually miss important phone calls, I cannot text some of my friends who are on the Sprint network. I even took my phone back to replace it, and that didn’t help the slightest bit. Randomly, 10 months later, I can text a couple of Sprint friends but not all of them! My email likes to act up on a daily basis, so I usually miss some pretty important dated information as well.

I don’t know how they can even advertise “more bars in more places” because every time I’m without service, all the people around me have full service, AND they can hold heir phone in their shoulder without dropping that call. Oh wait, I know how they can advertise it- because the iPhone often likes to show full service + 3G, but will not let you dial out, access the internet, send texts, or check emails. So you don’t realize as often that you’re really in a dead zone. It’s horrible. AT&T is absolutely terrible, and the iPhone desperately needs to get on another network!

Oh, does anyone else have problems with calling out, where it will sound like an Alien conversation of morse code squeaking? That happens to me at least once a week.

PET PEEVE

Automated answering systems at doctors offices that say “IF THIS IS AN EMERGENCY, PLEASE HANG UP AND DIAL 911.”

Any idiot that doesn’t know to call 911 in an emergency and wastes time calling a general practitioner deserves to suffer.

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA

Dear President Obama,

I have found myself amongst the many throngs of both American companies and individuals; tinkering on the verge of bankruptcy. Although my situation may not be as severe as say, a money laundering CEO, I too have found myself fall victim to this current economic situation.

In order to pay for school without straining the American banks, I turned four years of college into six and a half almost entirely out of pocket years, by sacrificing and starting at a community college to transfer. I not only put faith in myself but in my country as well, that upon graduation I would find a job to pay back these student loans. Well, the job market is tough right now which I’m sure we’re all more than aware. And since I am still claimed as a dependent to my father in order to maintain health insurance, I was never eligible for any of these stimulus packages that were offered by the government. Nevermind the fact that I have worked extremely hard, often times full time PLUS a part time job, while attending school full time for the past EIGHT YEARS OF MY LIFE. I was not eligible for a measly $600 or $700 as a stimulus.

So I ask you, Mr. President; please pay more attention to those who are working hard to advance themselves and are succeeding little by little. Some of us do not come from rich parents. Some of us have annual college tuition that costs more than our family income (as a direct result of the current automotive situation). You do not see us struggling by means of welfare, foodstamps and horrible credit because we are cautious. We make many sacrifices to prevent a further economic downturn. We are excited about our future and want nothing more than to succeed, but we know that it is a tedious, frustrating process at times. We have proven to work hard, sacrificing many hours that could be spent on schoolwork, family and friends, to work full time and pay our rent. We have perfect credit, and we live paycheck to paycheck, while slowing increasing our financial debts. We did not prematurely bring any children into this world because we are responsible and know that we are in no condition to support another life while we are trying to make a life for ourselves. Take a minute to consider those who have made sacrifices incomparable to others our age. Lighten up when you charge a full time student $1,500 in taxes for the year, when she only made $16,000 to start out with and already paid $2,000 in taxes. It’s amazing that we’ve learned how to adapt in places such as New York City, to live off of $16,000 a year, but to pay an additional $1500 come tax time just because we are dependents? It’s like another slap in the face. But, we cannot move to less prospering cities that are falling apart because there are no jobs.

So please, Mr. President, let’s get a grasp on who we are trying to help out in these hard times. I am not asking to redistribute the wealth, because those who have worked hard for their money do not deserve to be taxed more in order to pay for those who have not worked nearly as hard. I am simply asking that you not forget about those such as myself when the stimulus packages are distributed.

Sincerely,

Working students from lower middle class families of America

Officially fed up with the rain

Okay mother nature we get the point; you’re mad at New York. That or you didn’t get the memo that it’s no longer April. And to be honest, we really don’t care about July flowers.

It seems like it’s been raining for three months straight. A cloudy day with a five minute peep show of sunshine counts as a “sunny day” lately. It’s mid/late June! We should be spending M-F wishing we were outside at the beach, not glad that we’re stuffed up in an office! Well, at least my rain boots are getting good use.

The MTA is sure to wake you up

Some mornings I think MTA workers wake up on the wrong side of the bed, take a shower with no hot water, drop their breakfast on the floor, and spill their coffee in their lap before getting to work. Seriously, it seems like some days they are determined to make everyone else on the train have just as awful of a morning as they did. Like today for instance. The guy driving the 6 train was yelling into the intercom, just to yell. The train was not crowded at all, but yet at every stop he would just start screaming into the mic “let them off ladies and gentlemen, LET THEM OFF! Step aside, do not hold the doors open, let them off. Step all the way into the train there is another train directly behind us.” This continued at every stop, even when hardly anyone was getting on/off! Then as soon as the doors shut (after the 10th attempt), he would make the automated voice say something 2 or 3 times in a row, then get back on and repeat himself as we were driving. It’s annoying because for someone with headphones on, you hear that “ding” and you usually take one out to hear the so-called important announcement. Sometimes the train randomly decides to run express so that’s pretty important to know. But no, this guy just wanted to continue yelling. And on top of all of that, he was slamming on the brakes like we were playing bumper trains. I had this old guy next to me (who smelled like old cabbage) falling into me every seven seconds, as he tried to program his watch while the alarm went off the entire time. Apparently he didn’t believe in holding on to the railing, he’d just much rather fall onto me and step on my toes.

NYC Subway Riders

Attention NYC Subway Riders:

PLEASE KNOW THE SIZE OF YOUR ASS

I don’t really care how large, or small you are. But please, for the sake of those around you, know your limits. If you see a spot on the train that your average eight year old could barely squeeze into, please do not try and squeeze yourself into it! You cannot be oblivious to the fact that some spaces are just too small for your posterior. And when you put a quarter of your left butt cheek down in that itty bitty space, the other 3/4 and entire right cheek is resting upon that poor size 6 girl next to you. No amount of wiggling in the world can fit you into that spot, so please, don’t force it!

IT’S GETTIN HOT IN HERE…

Okay, so I know this whole global warming thing is kind of a huge issue. But it’s something I’ve always thought was “so far off, it’s not going to affect my lifetime all that much.” Nonetheless, I have tried to do a small part in preventing global warming- recycling, public transportation.. But the more I read the news, the more I feel like global warming is going to affect us all, suddenly, unexpectedly.

I just read the Yahoo! news story about the north pole ice caps melting completely this summer for the first time in human history. And of course, what is being discussed as a result of this? Who has custody over that area once it becomes open water, and can they drill oil? Seriously? We’re about to witness something that has been frozen solid for as long as we’ve known just MELT AWAY TO NOTHING, and they’re worried about drilling for oil? Doesn’t it cross their minds that the pure existence of mankind could be wiped out any day? And if that’s the case, we really don’t need oil now do we? I think it’s time we evolve past the age of oil, and not protecting the environment. Sure that was a huge step forward when coal powered machinery and oil was first discovered, but it’s past 2000 now. It’s time to figure out a new source of energy to fuel this world.

I don’t know, it just seems to me like all of these reports keep predicting that “in the future” all of these changes are going to happen; such as the polar ice caps melting. And then all of a sudden we wake up one day and turn on the news, and what do we see? The future is now. All of this stuff that is so far off is happening today so how can we be so sure as to what’s in store for our futures?

Seriously, I think something needs to be done, and us “normal folk” are not enough to make a difference. The world needs to change the way they use their resources, and how we depend on things such as oil to fuel our way of life. The government, and the world leaders need to refocus their money hungry views and do something that is going to prolong the life of humankind.
