Yesterday began my summer workout that I’ve been promising myself for the last four months. It seems that between school, work and fast food meals, I’ve often fallen into slumps when it comes to my health and fitness.
About a year ago, Richard Ting from R/GA gave our class a presentation about their company, which primarily focused on the development of the Nike+ campaign. I was sold within the first two sentences, because it just seemed like such an awesome device. It’s like a little personal trainer, playing your favorite music, and telling you your speed/rate, etc. So a year later, aka this past February, I bought the Nike+. May 18th, I used it for the first time.
Overall, my workout was pretty good. I’ve got a lot of work to do before I can call myself a runner, but I did manage to take a brisk walk down to the park (a half mile from my apartment) and then run/walk alternate for the 1.58 miles around the reservoir, and then continue the alterations all the way home- including up the four flights of stairs. My body hasn’t felt this used (in a good way!) in such a long time!
I turned on my Nike+ & my iPod upon leaving my apartment, hoping to jog down the stairs to begin the workout. Well that’s all the further I made it when the thing quit working. All of a sudden it said “WORKOUT COMPLETE,” and every time I went to restart, it told me that I needed to re-connect the receiver. After unplugging and plugging back in several times, only to have the same short 15 second workouts followed by the same errors, I finally quit messing with it. I’m kind of annoyed, because I have no idea what my pace was or anything for my first run- to know if I’m improving. Now I have no idea if I bought a faulty Nike+, or perhaps there just wasn’t enough charge on my iPod to keep the thing running? I put it on the charger all night, and I’ll give it another shot tonight- though I’ll probably endure a much shorter run today since my muscles are a bit tight…
Yay for getting in shape!
